Quotation I instinctively know I have great instincts. Quotation
— Red, M&M'S website[1]

Red is a spokescandy for multiple M&M's flavors. He is an anthropomorphic M&M created with the IQ of a genius and physical prowess (the best of both worlds). He is best friends with Yellow, whom he often bosses around and gets into trouble with. The duo have been the main M&Ms spokescandies since 1996. He represents the original Milk Chocolate flavor of M&M's, but has also represented Crispy, Dark and White Chocolate, Peanut Butter, Birthday Cake, Crunchy Mint, Raspberry and Espresso.

Red is an expressive extrovert, and he would like to win always. He is really picky and cynical, which can lead to quick remarks. His attitude and mouth often lands him into humiliating or dangerous situations.

Appearance

Red is an anthropomorphic M&M with black eyes, thick black eyebrows, milk chocolate filling, and light red skin. Prior to 2022, he had peach skin, like the other spokescandies. For attire, he wears a red shell. He also wears white gloves with fabric cuffs and sneakers, white shoes with fabric straps, and cuffs.

Personality

Red is witty, sarcastic, narcissistic, impatient, greedy, selfish, and cynical. He usually works for his own interests, sometimes even neglecting his best friend Yellow or fellow spokescandies in the process. He is often seen bossing Yellow around or making him do all the work. His outspoken nature often lands him in trouble, especially moreso than the other M&Ms characters. He greatly enjoys his celebrity status, and attributes his fame to his "charisma", "smarts" and "humility". He prefers to be the center of attention: for example in a talk show appearance in a 1997 commercial, he gets annoyed when he is upstaged by Green. While in a Christmas commercial advertising the custom "My M&Ms", he is annoyed at a Christmas party when the guests are more interested in the custom M&Ms than him. He was also very jealous of Blue when he first made his debut, due to his popularity surrounding him being the new M&Ms color at the time. On multiple occasions, he was seen holding his breath so his complexion would turn blue, in an attempt to pose as a new blue M&M.

Occasionally he is portrayed as a hopeless romantic; in the 2013 commercial "Devour" Brown sets him up on a "date" with a woman, but she really only wants to eat him. Meanwhile, in the "Love Ballad" commercial that same year, he passionately sings "I'd Do Anything For Love" by Meat Loaf, only for his female love interests to try and eat him. He is shown to be jealous of Yellow in the 2002 commercial "Love Hurts", where his best friend becomes the center of an attractive woman's attention.
